April 7, 2025

On the evening of April 6, 2025, Mesa County, Colorado, residents witnessed a celestial spectacle: strings of bright lights moving across the night sky. Shared widely on community Facebook pages, these sightings sparked wonder and excitement. For those familiar with celestial phenomena, the explanation was clear—Starlink satellites, part of SpaceX’s global internet constellation, were passing overhead.

At 9:10 PM MDT, the Starlink-243 (G6-72) group was visible for 3 minutes, moving from north to north at an elevation of 10° to 17°, as confirmed by FindStarlink. This pass, following a launch on April 5 from Cape Canaveral, Florida, and another on April 1 from Vandenberg Space Force Base, lit up the sky with a “train” of lights. Starlink, with over 6,750 satellites in low Earth orbit, reflects sunlight in the dark sky, and Mesa County’s minimal light pollution made the display especially vivid. “With my background in researching sky phenomena, I knew it was Starlink’s signature train,” the author reflects, having tracked similar events for years.

Another chance to see Starlink is coming on April 8 at 5:45 AM MDT, when the Starlink-241 (G6-80) group will pass from south to east for 3 minutes, at an elevation of 22° to 34°. While these sightings inspire awe, they also raise questions about space traffic and astronomical interference—a topic worth deeper investigation. For now, Mesa County skywatchers can use FindStarlink to predict future passes, joining a global community marveling at the blend of technology and the cosmos.
