Rep. Jim Himes reveals Air Force programs consider anomalous materials, yet finds no proof of UAPs or unusual substances, fueling transparency debates.

Representative Jim Himes (D-CT), Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, recently offered insight into government UAP efforts during an interview with Matt Laslo of Ask a Pol. “For example, the Air Force has programs and others have programs that contemplate the possibility that there could be anomalous materials or whatever,” Himes stated, adding, “To date, I have seen no evidence that any of these programs actually have any evidence whatsoever of any UAP, unusual materials, unusual life forms, etc.” His comments, shared on Ask a Pol’s X post, underscore a divide between theoretical exploration and tangible proof.

Himes, with access to classified briefings, has investigated claims like those from whistleblower David Grusch, who alleged the U.S. holds “non-human biologics” from crash sites. Himes told Laslo he’s looked into Grusch’s assertions—knowing who he is—but found no support. This aligns with his prior skepticism: he once told Ask a Pol, “I was assured by all of the various units that there was no material,” reflecting doubts from All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) briefings.

AARO’s latest report, available at their official site, logs over 800 UAP cases—mostly balloons, drones, or birds—with no extraterrestrial evidence. The Air Force’s UAP legacy includes Project Blue Book, which debunked most sightings decades ago. Today’s programs might explore exotic alloys or unknown tech, but Himes’ “no evidence” stance suggests they’re speculative, not conclusive.

His vague “or whatever” could skirt classified details or signal limited congressional insight. On X, users like @UfoBloke demand openness, citing Himes’ Gang of Eight role as reason he’d know more. Yet, Grusch hinted at secret Special Access Programs (SAPs) beyond oversight—a theory unproven without declassified records.
